The use of Strategic Management Techniques
The use of Strategic Management Techniques Strategic management is concerned with formulation and implementation of strategy within an organization. Strategy in general refers to Business purpose, values or activities business is engaged in and the way it carries out its activities, compete or operates. It can be described as a systematic analysis of internal factors (organization itself) and external factors (like competitors, suppliers, customers etc.) to provide the basis of rethinking the current management practices. As a discipline, strategic management developed in 1970s, but it has evolved in response to changes in organization structure and corporate culture. With a greater empowerment, strategy has become a great concern not just for the heads or higher superiors of the company but even for employees at all level. Its one of the main objectives is to achieve greater alignment in business policies and strategies. It can be used to determine the values, goals, objectives, roles, responsibilities etc. of a business. It involves the application of corporate strategy to all aspects of organization, especially to decision making. Major Areas: The three major areas of strategic management are strategic analysis, strategic formulation and strategic implementation. Strategic Analysis: This area includes formulation of business vision, in depth study of internal and external environment (PESTEL) and analysis of firms industry (task environment). The internal analysis can help in identifying the firms strength and weakness and external analysis reveals the opportunities and threats. An industry analysis can be performed with the help of Porters Five Forces which evaluate entry barriers, suppliers, customers, substitute product and industry rivalry. Strategic Formulation: Provided the information from the environmental scan the firm should match its strength to opportunities that has been identified in context to its weakness and threats prevailing in the environment. To gain superior profitability firm tries to seek competitive advantage over its competitors. Strategy implementation: This is termed to be the final stage of strategy management where all the designed strategy is implied in actual manner in the real corporate world. It is implied by means of programs, budget and procedures. The way in which strategy is implemented can be of significant impact on whether it will be successful or not. So care must be taken while implementing and communicating strategy to others. Two approaches for Strategic Management Prescriptive Approach/Planned Strategy: Prescriptive approach views the formulation of strategic management as a systematic process of rational thinking and logical decision making. After analyzing the business environment, strategists must set well defined objectives and formulate, select and implement strategies to achieve the defined objectives. It emphasis that strategic management is a rational process analyzing where the organization is, where it wants to go and how it is going to get there. It is formal planning method and is most applicable in those organizations where conditions are stable and within complex and diversified organizations where control and coordination is from top to bottom. It has three stages and all work in a sequential manner. It includes strategy analysis, strategy development and strategy implementation. Long term monitoring and control Source: Lynch, 2009 Long term monitoring and control The above diagram shows that first of all analysis of business environment and resources are done in accordance to defined organizational objectives, then different strategies are designed and best strategy is chosen among all and is implemented. Example: Prescriptive Strategy to Build a World Airline Singapore Airlines (Richard Lynch, Fourth Edition, Page 42-43) Widely regarded as one of the worlds largest leading airlines, Singapore Airlines started as small regional airlines in 1972. After break away from Malaysian Federation in 1995 Mr. Lee Kuan Yew (Prime Minister at that time) realized that relatively small country like Malaysia needs a strong and distinctive strategy if it was to survive and grow. Following prescriptive strategies were under taken: The airline decided that it would build a reputation of superior service to its rivals. Thus, it introduced free drinks, hot towels and headsets form outset in 1972- such amenities are relatively cheap and quick to introduce. Substantial investment in staff training, employee welfare and related activities. Singapore Airlines took the view that staff were crucial both in-flight service deliver and also to aircraft safety through expertise in ground and related operations. Development of a modern airport at its main base in Singapore Changhi Airport Coupled with related strategy of ensuring for airlines. The investment in new fleet aircraft like for example airline introduced the new ultra long range Airbus A340-500 aircraft in 2004. Advantages: Clear objectives provide focus for the business. Makes it possible to organize complex activities and information, set targets against which performance can be evaluated and generally increase the degree of control that can be exercised over the operation of the business. It is often linked to Competitive Positioning approach in which analysis of the business and its environment is done to get a competitive advantage resulting in outperforming its rivals. Disadvantages: There are often discrepancies between planned and realized strategy. Rigid planning in times of dynamic and turbulent business can be unproductive. Rigid adherence to plans may mean some missed opportunities and further more it can stifle creativity as well. Does not take into consideration fallibilities of the manager, culture, politics or the experiential learning abilities of organization. Emergent Approach / Incremental Strategy: Emergent approach or incremental views that strategy must be evolved incrementally over a period of time. This view is based upon the premise that business is complex social organization operating in ever changing environment. Under such circumstances business will evolve its strategy by interacting between its stakeholders and its environment. In this the final objective is unclear and strategies are implemented on an incremental and continuous basis, it has no long term plans or process and there is unstructured in form. However, this approach does not completely ignore all the stages of strategy development. Strategy analysis is still important but strategy development and implementation is inseparable and is based on experience, trial and error adjustment. Active experimenting, learning and adjusting Active experimenting, learning and adjusting Source: Lynch, 2009 As it can been seen in the diagram shown above that emergent strategy is somewhat similar to hit and trail method. It involves trail and experimentation of different approaches, no single approach is chosen for implementation instead strategy is build over a time period. There is no clear distinction between strategy development and its implementation and strategy keeps on changing according to prevailing circumstances. Example: Emergent Strategy at Virgin Group (Richard Lynch, Fourth Edition, Page 47) Richard Branson developed a small record mail order business in 1969 and two years later opened his first record shop and subsequently developed it into the Virgin Megastore. Looking for further opportunities using Virgin brand, luckily he met with an entrepreneur wishing to develop an airlines business. This eventually led to Virgin airline business and in later years business moved into various ventures. Its business strategy is described as below: Virgin group takes the view that there are always some opportunities available for a hungry business. They look for opportunities where they can offer new and better value for money than other companies, where other companies lack complacent like trains, insurance, banks and where new internet might deliver business opportunities. So the main thrust of the strategy has been to find new market opportunities where company believes its brand name can create competitive advantage. Contrary to what people may think, there constantly expanding and adverse empire is neither reckless nor random. Each of their business demonstrates the right picking in right market and at the right time. Advantages: Increases flexibility. Reflects reality and corresponds with what actually happens in an organization and their environment. Flexibility of emergent strategy allows implementation to be integrated and modified as events unfold for the organization. Disadvantages: The downside of this approach is that no planning takes place and the organization muddles through with managers who are biased and happy to seek only satisfactory implementation rather than maximizing the objectives of the organization. It may result in lack of purpose in strategy it can make it difficult of evaluate performance, because organization has no set objectives, performance against it cannot be measured. Case Study of Easy Jet Introduction: Easy Jet was founded by Stelios Haji Ioannou, the son of Greek shipping tycoon who reputedly used to hate the internet. Definitions of Project Success
Definitions of Project Success Using your own words, define ââ¬Å"Project Successâ⬠. Describe some aspects of how you would approach a project to ensure delivery of successful project outcome.à à à à à à à à à à Introduction Projects are defined by their scope, budget, and schedule. For example, an Agency is to undertake a project to design and build a new maintenance facility for its fleet of buses (scope), at an estimate of $30 million (preliminary budget) over a three-year period (schedule). The schedule specifies a defined beginning and end. Projects go through a life cycle of phases between their beginnings and end that for construction projects are typically: initiation, planning, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout. Project Success is defined in many ways but briefly means that it consists of many activities which have to be considered and completed within the constraints of time, cost, and performance. Project can be successful if the following factors are implemented. Time Period: Time plays a key role for completion of project. Every Project are constrained to a specific time period and within that time the project should be completed. There should not be any extensions if the completion date of project is finalised. Cost/Budget: It is also a key constraint for all projects in a limited budget. Projects should run within the budget allocated. All requirements should be fulfilled within the budget limits and the resources should be used efficiently to complete the project. Generally the project manager develops the budget based on the cost estimates at the beginning of each project phase and refines it once there is better information defining the scope. Refining the budget occurs through studies and analysis in the design development process through the Preliminary engineering phase.à When Agencies try to fix the budget too early in the project life cycle, they are surprised by the significant increases in the budget over what was set forth in the Capital Improvement Plan. The budget should not be fixed as baseline until after completion of the preliminary engineering phase. Performance: SocioCultural Issues: Sociocultural factors play an increasingly significant role in the development project management. This aspect produces a provisional social system within a well-built organizational environment that unites the talents of a different set of professionals working to entire the project. Project managers should build a supportive social network among a different set of collaborators with diverse standards, obligations, and views. Since People are the essential part of project, the essential factors narrating people in project management are teamwork, communication, leadership, negotiation, problem solving, behavioural characteristics and conflict management. Projects success greatly depends upon the commitment of all the team members to achieve the common goal. To select the right members and ensure good team work within the project team is a challenge for the project manager. Effective communication is essential; the main objective of communication in project management is to perceive that there is a general understanding of the project. Leadership involves identifying and articulating the need to considerably change the direction and function of the project, aligning people to the latest direction, and motivating them to work collectively to conquer hurdles produced by the change and to understand innovative objectives. Negotiation is the process of planning, discussing, suggest, trade-offs, bargaining and agreeing. The factors like resources, assignments, scope, cost and schedule of objectives are managed by the project staff in a project. The project manger should be capable of identifying and analysing problems related to technical and managerial aspects in a project. By constructing problem-solving in a project and problem collaboration in project team then these problems are dealt swiftly. Problem definition and decision making are involved in problem solving. Behavioural characteristics are the factors that divide and depict a persons favoured way of acting, interacting, and responding in a variety of circumstances. The behavioural characteristics which are essential for project management are thoughts, common sense, progressiveness, adaptability, creativity, prudent risk taker, equality and commitment. In several organizations, conflicts occur between employees as a normal result of employee relations. The project manager needs to identify the objects and behavioural components of conflict. In any organisation conflicts can be managed by collaborating, compromising, smoothing, avoidance and competing.à à à à 1. Project Mission- It should have defined goals and general directions. 2. Project Schedule/Plan - A detailed specification of the individual activities for the project Implementation. 3. Client Consultation - There should be regular consultation, communication and active participations in all meetings. 4. Personnel Recruitment, Selection, and Training of the necessary personnel for the project team. 5. Technical Tasks For a certain project there should be availability of the required technology and expertise to accomplish the specific technical action steps. 6. Clients Acceptance - The act of selling the final Project to its ultimate intended users. 7. Monitoring and Feedback- Timely provision of comprehensive control information at each stage in the implementation process. 8. Communication The provision of an appropriate network and necessary data to all key actors in the implementation process. 9. Trouble-shooting - Ability to handle unexpected crises and deviations from plan. 10. Top-Management Support - Willingness of top management to provide the necessary resources and authority/power for project success. Question 2 (5 Marks) Describe the role of the Project Manager. Discuss the extent to which the power of the Project Manager is dependent upon the organisational context. Metaphor in Hamlet Essay -- essays research papers
Metaphor in Hamlet In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Hamlet, Act III scene 1, Hamletââ¬â¢s soliloquy of ââ¬Å"To be or not to beâ⬠is full of metaphors that bring the various themes of the play together. One of the primary themes of the play is Hamletââ¬â¢s uncertainty of action and inability to decide how to cope with the problems he faces. In Hamletââ¬â¢s soliloquy, Hamlet metaphorically discusses his indecisiveness about the importance of continuing his life and asks himself ââ¬Å"whether ââ¬Ëtis nobler of the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and, by opposing them, end them.â⬠Hamlet wonders whether it is worth facing all his problems (ââ¬Å"slings and arrows of outrageous fortuneâ⬠) or to commit suicide (ââ¬Å"and by opposing them, end them.â⬠) Hamlet metaphorically comp...

Minor Characters in Charlotte Brontes Jane Eyre :: Jane Eyre Essays
The Minor Characters of Jane Eyre All the minor characters who appear in the novel, Jane Eyre are only sketched in, so to speak. They are "flat"; not developed in the way that the central three characters are developed. All of them are conventional; behave and speak conventionally, and do not develop at all. They are set merely as foils for the central characters, and they tend to be extremes or stereotypes, behaving very predictably and not surprising us with any unexpected reaction. Some of the minor characters who parallel aspects of Jane's character, like Maria Temple and Helen Burns, are idealised - made to seem saint-like. others, who contrast with Jane, like Georgiana Reed and Blanche Ingram, are grotesque in order to emphasise the difference between them and her. They become, in effect, symbolic and their excesses or virtues sharpen the contrast with Jane. Georgiana and Eliza Reed are described by JE as "feeling without judgement"(Georgiana) and "Judgement without feeling" (Eliza) - both are drawn by CB to show the results of each type of excessive behaviour. JE herself has to fight to preserve the balance in HER character between Judgement and feeling - the Reed sisters therefore provide an indicator as to what happens if the balance goes wrong. Blanche Ingram is a woman without scruples or morality - haughty and proud - very beautiful and priveleged - she is nevertheless shallow and intellectually inferior. She is a warning shadow to JE, who is soon to be faced with the temptation to give in to her passions and embrace the shallow life of a courtesan, when Rochester pleads with her to go to the continent with him after the "wedding". The more virtuous minor characters serve the same function, standing as moral or spiritual beacons to which Jane may aspire, but may not ever reach. Maria Temple - the charitable schoolteacher is both an example and a warning. She can and does serve as a role-model for Jane, but she is also a powerless female - having to answer for her independence to a wrathful Mr Brocklehurst, and having no real authority when he is on the premises. Her position is servile and inferior and she submits to it. JE later will break this pattern at Thornfield, in her dealings with her employer, but ironically her habit of submissiveness is gained as a direct result of association with Maria Temple.

Iraq: Past, Present, Future Essay -- Essays Papers
Iraq: Past, Present, Future Imagine you are back in time, in a land where water flows, date palms flourish and people abound. The part of the globe which the Greeks called Mesopotamia and we callâ⬠¦Iraq. In my paper, instead of focusing primarily on the impending war with Iraq, I will focus on why we are continually in a conflict with Iraq (and other Middle Eastern countries) through investigating the past, present and future of Iraqââ¬â¢s history. It is highly interesting how because of the USââ¬â¢ dealings with Iraq that have stretched back for the last twenty or thirty years, many people in this country have flawed senses of the rich history actually present in the region. Mesopotamia, or the fertile crescent, which housed some of the oldest civilizations known to man, has been all but forgotten about by western society, and the greatness and cultural fluidity that once persisted there has been forgotten almost entirely in this age of arbitrary borders and divisive politics. With the partitioning of Turkey at the conclusion of WWI, the middle east was segmented arbitrarily which led to political unrest in the region. Because of this unrest, there has continually been the apparent need and desire (on the part of the western powers, especially the United States) to intervene in the Middle East and especially Iraq. This is how one can explain the current situation we are in and have been in with Iraq for at least twenty years. When leadership is despotic, and these arbitrary border lines are crossed or disrespected, our government usually decides to intervene (especially if oil money is at stake) These interventions are simply patch-up solutions to what is a much larger problem: instability caused by arbitrary borde... ...Life Video and Television. Into the wild
Into the wild Imagine this, giving away absolutely all the money that you have in savings away to charity leaving everything behindâ⬠¦ Absolutely everything, and then Just going away Into the wilderness to live off the land. That, to many people, may sound completely Insane, but to Chris Mishandles It was completely reasonable. Chris Mishandles, a twenty-four year old left to Alaska to live In the wilderness for a couple of months, but what he didn't know was that he wasn't going to be able to make it out alive.John Krause the author of the book into the wild follows all of Chris Uncleanness's steps and his journey from the moment that he left home to his death. Christopher Mishandles had just graduated from Emory university when he decided to leave everything behind. He left his home, family, everything he owned, and only taking what he would be able to carry on his back. Chris had $24,000 in his savings and his father had planned for him to go to law school with that money, but instead Chris gave it all away to charity.Chrism's plans were to go to on a Journey to Alaska and eve In the wild for a couple of months, however Chris TLD tell any of his family members about his plans, and didn't keep In touch with any of them during any part of his Journey. This left Chrism's parents extremely worried about what had happened to their son. Chris left absolutely everything he had and went out in look for nature and peace. He wanted to get away from society, all the rules, and everyone that he felt had control over him.During his trip to Alaska Chris meets many different kinds of people that have and impact on his life as well as they do on him. Throughout this story Chris proves how he doesn't like authority, in fact, he hates it. Chris dislikes anyone who he feels has authority over him. One of the themes is freedom. Chris basically does everything he does to find the ultimate freedom. He wants to escape from all the rules. While talking to Jim, the guy that drov e Chris to Alaska, Chris exclaims, ââ¬Å"How I feed myself is none of the government's business.Buck their stupid rules. â⬠proving how much Chris hated authority and how he disliked the government, he felt as the government had authority over him. Another proof that Chris was looking to free himself from authority Is how Chris leaves his home because he felt as his father had authority over him. This leads to the conclusion that one of the themes for the book is ultimate freedom. Krause had never meet Chris in person he had never actually socialized with Chris, but realized that much of what motivated Chris is what motivated him as well. The speaker and the subject both had a connection with nature. Krause had been introduced to a mountain by his father and that's when e began to be interested in nature. Mishandles and Krause had both climbed the Devils Thumb, but their goals were different. Squeaker's goal was to complete the journey of being able to write the biography of Mi shandles. Krause had planned ahead to remain alive. The reason why Chris had gone to Devils Thumb was to feel free and get away from everything. Chris had not packed or planned ahead he In a way Just went and let faith decide for him.Chris and Krause had the same views but their own ways of Interpreting them. Krause makes many assumptions throughout the book. Everything Chris does is an assumption that Krause made Alaska. The way Chris is and how he acts are assumptions we make because of the way that Krause describes Chris. The way Chris is described as the ways that he views life are assumptions made by Krause. No one will ever really know how and why Chris did what he did, but what Krause assumes assumes is pretty close. The reason for writing the novel is because people are easy to Judge. The story of Mishandles got to people as soon as he died. People Judged Mishandles because they didn't see things from his perspective. They began to think that Mishandles was selfish for leavin g his family and insane for going into the wilderness without being prepared. The story provided reasoning to what Mishandles had done, to prove to people that Mishandles wasn't completely insane. Krause wanted people to remember Chris as someone that had an impact on people because of what he did, and not as someone that was Just completely insane. Into the wild Into the wild 4 Chris Mishandles, a Sophisticated Young Man. Even though Chris wanted to get absolute freedom, his Journey turned out to be a just selfish one, not even getting totally separated from the civilization or society. It Is possible that he went out on a Journey to get everlasting freedom from strict rules and formats. Even If Chris was an intellectual student, getting all As, well enough to go to Harvard law school, one time, he got F on a Physics. The reason was that Chris id not follow the format that the teacher told to students, regardless of the answers. His father agrees with the teacher, which shows his father, as well as the teacher, was a very strict person, especially on rules. As he realized that his father had another wife, and thought of his father as a immoral man, this young man who was full of energy may wanted to get out the society and get free. As he got out of the society, he earns money by himself and travels by himself. The one contradiction that I fo und was that he needed the money. Nowadays, money Is necessary for trade, economy; It became the basic part of our lives. In this sense, money can represent the excelled world, which Chris was not able to get rid of. If he did not need the money, there Is no reason for him to work In a Macdonald or under Westerners. Chris even mentions In one of his letters that he realized the money was necessary part of his journey, which seems contradictory for pure freedom. Another contradiction could be found with his life in Alaska. The reason why he went there was because he as motivated by his books. One of them is ââ¬Å"Call of the Wildâ⬠, by Jack London. The story of this book is about a dog from California, going back to Alaska undergoing lots of sufferings. It seems that the dog got absolute freedom, but the author himself never went to Alaska, not even into the wilds. Chris also thought that Alaska was a pure nature. He thought that this purity and isolation would enable him to find out who he truly is, by feeling the nature and working by himself. Well, reality was different. Chris lacked In food.If he had enough time for this kind of self-learning, his diary would not be full of foods, rather what he observed on that day or what he realized should be written. Furthermore, even If he tried to get out of the world full of structures, his journey and its consequence (his deathly shows that this was for his own good. A death of one's child is one of the most tragic occurrences for parents. Chris not coming back home, and death made his parents worry such that his mother ,Bible, would mistakenly think any hitchhiker passing by as her son. ChrisMishandles is truly a sophisticated young man, with desire for freedom, who had to rely on money, trying to find out who he truly was, being a selfish one at the end. Just selfish one, not even getting totally separated from the civilization or society. It is and formats. Even if Chris was an intellectual student, getting a ll As, well enough to I found was that he needed the money. Nowadays, money is necessary for trade, economy; it became the basic part of our lives. In this sense, money can represent the civilized world, which Chris was not able to get rid of.If he did not need the money, there is no reason for him to work in a Macdonald or under Westerners. Chris even mentions in one of his letters that he realized the money was necessary part of his Journey, which seems contradictory for pure freedom. Another contradiction different. Chris lacked in food. If he had enough time for this kind of self-learning, his realized should be written. Furthermore, even if he tried to get out of the world full of structures, his Journey and its consequence. Into the Wild The Unforgiven ââ¬Å"In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Four months later, his decomposed body was found by a moose hunterâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Krakauer, 1) But, what lead him to do all of these and eventually die alone in the coldest place on earth, Alaska? For some, the society leads him to do these, and for some his parents lead him to die in this way.But in my opinion, it was all his fault. Chrisââ¬â¢ inability to forgive; lead him to isolate himself from his friends, lead him to hate his parents and, most importantly, lead him to die. Chris was a boy who did not know to forgive anyone or anything, which caused him to lose friends in the college. Whatever happens between people, they should always forgive each other to continue their relationships or friendships. But the inability of Chris to forgive anyone caused him to isolate himself in the college and in the society. As a result of this isolation Chris chose to go into the wilderness alone.Even though it doesnââ¬â¢t mention clearly in the book that whether Chris had strong relationships with his friends or not, it is clear that he wasnââ¬â¢t the type of person who used to have so many friends. He was an introverted type of person. And his relationships with his friends seem to be shallow. This isolation was caused by his inability to forgive and his characteristic of being an introverted type of person. These two facts affected his life directly because whoever isolates himself from his friends and society may do dangerous things. And the dangerous thing that he has done appeared to be escaping into the wilderness.Even though he tried to isolate himself from the society, it wasnââ¬â¢t possible to d o it while living in the society, and thatââ¬â¢s why he escaped into the wilderness. So, the most affective fact for him to isolate himself from the society and therefore escaping into the wild, was his inability to forgive. His inability to forgive didnââ¬â¢t cause him to just lose his friends and isolate from the society but also hate his parents and disgust their manners. ââ¬Å"Their fraudulent marriage and our fatherââ¬â¢s denial of his other son was for Chris a murder of every dayââ¬â¢s truth. â⬠from this quote, it can be said that his father was married with nother woman when his mother was pregnant to him. And after learning that, Chris loses all the respect and all the love he had towards his parents. But if he couldââ¬â¢ve just forgive them and accept them as they are, he wouldnââ¬â¢t die alone. It is perfectly normal for him to show some anger to his parents but after some time he shouldââ¬â¢ve forgive them. It is wrong to judge people for the t hings theyââ¬â¢ve done in the past. Everyone needs a second chance and therefore everyone deserves to be forgiven. You canââ¬â¢t change the past by escaping into the wilderness, but you may change your relationship with people by forgiving them. And forgiving just doesnââ¬â¢t cause any harm to you, but escaping into the wilderness may. As he forgave neither his parents, nor the society he used to live in, he also didnââ¬â¢t accept them in the way they are. It is hard to change peopleââ¬â¢s minds after they grow up, but it is easier to change your mind when you are younger. The society that Chris used to live was composed of people who had different ideas with Chris. They were materialistic, but Chris was not; they liked rules but Chris hated rules; they think that joy emanates from human relationships, but Chris thinks that joy emanates from the nature. However, if the person wants to be happy, he can be happy in any condition. But to be able to do that and be happy eve rywhere, that person must accept the people with their characteristics and should not try to change them, that person should be optimistic and most importantly that person must forget and forgive the other people that live in the society. Ron Franz says: ââ¬Å"From the bits and pieces I put together, you know, from what you told me about your family, your mother and your dad. And I know you've got your problems with the church too.But there's some kind of bigger thing we can all appreciate, and it sounds like you don't mind calling it God. But when you forgive, you love. And when you love, God's light shines on you. â⬠And this quote shows that Ron also noticed Chrisââ¬â¢ inability to forgive; because he recommends Chris to forgive anyone no matter what happened in between and he also mentions that he will find the way to get in contact with God if he learns to forgive. Ron Franz notices his inability to forgive and feels like he has to give him this speech where he put emp hasis on ââ¬Å"forgivingâ⬠.Because from his experiences he knows that forgiving is important and he also knows that Chris will be happy if he learns to forgive. To sum up, I think that Chrisââ¬â¢ inability to forgive people lead him to die, where he couldââ¬â¢ve just chosen to forgive everyone and be happy. But Chris chose the easy way which is to escape from the society rather than trying to be a part of that society by learning to forgive and to forget. If he had found a way to forgive his parents and the society for their mistakes would he have gone such extremes to find himself? Into the Wild Although Chris McCandlessââ¬â¢s life ended abruptly, he successfully found meaning in himself and confirmed his belief in the value of living to the fullest when he listened to his inner self as he survived in the Alaskan wild. Into the Wild by Jon Krakaur tells the story of Chrisââ¬â¢s bold decision to separate himself from society. He had a good life going for him, but yet McCandless felt as if he wasnââ¬â¢t really living. He said, ââ¬Å"If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazyâ⬠(89). In order for him to develop lifeââ¬â¢s true value, he felt as though needed to get away, despite what everyone else thought. He proved his long journey successful through his pleasure at the end, fulfilled by its life changing effect on him. He had completed his emotional journey of finding himself and arranged to return to society, before the surprise of his unexpected downfall. He proclaims, ââ¬Å"I am reborn. This is my dawn. Real life has just begunâ⬠(168). McCandless had learned contentment and gained the will to go back to his old environment with a new perspective. His independence and stronghold on life proves the importance of self-realization and knowing oneself, showing the reader that every person has his own aspirations and needs they need to fulfill. Later on, when Chris realizes he has no more hope of living, he writes yet an inspiring and gratifying tribute. He said, ââ¬Å"I have had a happy life and thank the Lord. Goodbye and may God bless all! â⬠(199). Chris was a real-life example of a personââ¬â¢s morals being pursued and put into action. He shows readers the importance of self-realization and identity, even if others arenââ¬â¢t accepting. One should set standards for himself, and not let others influence them. Chris McCandless lived past his mistakes and accomplished what he needed to do in order to become the best and happiest person he was capable of. People Judged Mishandles because they didn't see things from his perspective.
